Recommended Service Providers

June 20, 2007

I thought I would write a post about some companies and products I have had great experiences with lately.

As I posted before , my car was broken into. It took awhile, but I finally had the glass replaced by Safelite. They did a great job. The technician, Mike, came out and replaced the glass in about 15 minutes. The cost was around 200 bucks, and was the lowest among all Auto Glass companies with online quotes.

Other products/services:

I use VOIP for home phone now. Everyone probably knows the big names like Vonage. However, ( just like with traditional long distance) you usually get better deals with the lessser known providers. I use Sun Rocket VOIP.  The service runs $199 a year and works well.

I started using The Nose Bidet. Yeah, that’s right- a neti pot. I have always had sinus problems and thought Why the Hell Not? So far So good.

I was Robbed-My Car was Broken Into, Stuff Stolen

March 25, 2007

I just discovered that the small section of my rear passenger window was smashed and my car was broken into. My car was parked in the driveway on my quiet residential street. Since I did not drive it anywhere today and it is facing forward, I did not notice the broken glass. My neighbor noticed when she pulled into her driveway and informed me.

Well the primary item stolen was my CD Player. I got it for my birthday 6 years ago and it was pretty inexpensive. A couple other things were stolen, but I don’t think I will mention exactly what they were. It wasn’t a big deal. The most annoying thing besides the broken glass was a new CD that was in the CD Player. I bought it on the Tuesday release date and it was the only CD I have bought in the last 2-3 years.

At first this made me really upset, but I have decided to let the anger go. In fact I plan to go out and get a new CD player, window, and CD soon. I don’t look forward to spending the money, but I’m not going to let this defeat me.

Still Looking for a New Phone ( April-ish)

March 16, 2007

So I posted before about how I need to buy a new cell phone.  I have been thinking about this and reading some reviews the past couple days.  I am probably going to go for the best wireless phone I can get for FREE ( With my Verizon Wireless “New Every Two” they offer a lot of free phones like the razrs and the new Verizon Krazr cell phone etc) OR try to find a smaller Pocket PC/Smartphone to replace my Samsung i710.

I have been looking at a few different options. Personally I like the big screen and using the stylus, but maybe I should look at something with a pull-out keyboard. This would be a compromise that should cut down on the size of the phone while also adding to the function. For example, something like this: Verizon enV LG Review

I could always just get the updated version of my Samsung Pocket PC. I could switch carriers also, but I like Verizon.

I Need a New Cell Phone

February 15, 2007

I have been using Verizon Wireless for about 12 years now ( well it was Bell Atlantic Mobile in my area then).  I haven’t had any problems, but I never look forward to changing phones. I also miss the “old” style phones. No, I don’t mean the Zach Morris model. I mean, for example the Motorola StarTacs. It was the small, “cool” flip phone of it’s time.  Since I worked at a Verizon agent store, I got 4 or 5 of those for free.

For whatever reason, at some point in 2002, I was required to switch phones to keep my plan ( even though the StarTac I had, 7868 I think, was “Tri-band”). I ended up getting a small Samsung phone I never cared for. It had a few fun games I guess. I gave that phone to my brother and it was broken long ago. Oh well, it was a $49 ( out of pocket with upgrade ) phone with a 1-2 year life expectancy.

Almost exactly 3 years ago, I bought the phone I have now: Samsung i710 Pocket PC ( $499). At the time I had a job and needed a way to constantly monitor some websites like my Google Adwords account. I thought I could find a “smartphone” or similar model and have decent internet access. It never really worked out and I just cancelled the internet plan.  I put my home internet businesses on hold and just focused on my other job and going to school. Meanwhile I had what I thought was a great phone, but this thing is cumbersome. I mean it might as well be the size of a Zach Morris cell phone. Trying to fit it in my pocket is like shoving a full size Day Planner in there. The leather case is bigger than some purses ( and just as girly).

On the other hand, I am pretty used to this phone. I like using the stylus to make notes and send messsages, etc. I never really got into typing out messages on a standard phone.  I am eligible for “New Every 2″ and should be able to order a new phone online at any time.

So preferrably, I’d like to get a smaller phone that still has Smartphone or Pocket PC features. I’m looking forward to something I can actually fit in my pocket. Though who knows, I might just get a razr or Krazr or something.
